Smooth mirror polish and adorned on the front with applied insects (often in amber, mother-of-pearl, colored enamels, etc) in Shibayama style, referencing a Japanese decorative technique developed during the Edo period (1603-1868) and named after Shibayama Senzo, an artist renowned for popularizing this method. 1/5 4/5 lid and concave striker at the base.
