The "Miscellaneous" category brings together collectible objects from the 19th and early 20th century that elude conventional classifications: pocket measuring instruments, travelling necessaires, small trade tools, scientific curiosities, functional trinkets or decorative pieces whose precise purpose has sometimes been lost to time. Produced primarily in France, England and Austria-Hungary, these objects bear witness to a craft of precision then at the height of its art, carried by specialist houses such as Cartier, Fabergé or Parisian silversmithing workshops today anonymous yet identifiable by their hallmarks.

The most representative materials include solid silver, gilt bronze, tortoiseshell, shagreen, ivory and certain rare alloys worked entirely by hand. The period 1850–1914 is particularly fertile: the rise of the bourgeoisie created sustained demand for everyday objects elevated to the rank of prestige accessories, combining mechanical ingenuity with aesthetic refinement.

To assess a piece from this category, a discerning collector will first examine the overall condition of surfaces and any mechanisms, the presence and legibility of guarantee or maker's hallmarks, and the consistency between the decorative style and the claimed period. A well-executed early restoration does not necessarily diminish a piece, but any recent intervention on original materials must be clearly identified and documented.
